Get Ready for Sunshine!!
It’s almost time for picnics, sports, the beach and outdoor fun! Sunscreen should play a big part in getting ready! But hold up! There’s been information regarding how bad some sunscreens are for you and how good the vitamin D is. True and True. Some sunscreens contain chemicals that you would never put on your body. But every sunburn can put a person that much closer to skin cancer. Working full time in a dermatology office, I’ve seen a lot of skin cancer. Many times its the spot that no one notices. Or the spot thought to be a birthmark or a pimple.
So how do you choose? Generally the best sunscreen is the one you will put on. I definitely recommend a facial moisturizer with sunscreen for everyday. My favorites are mineral sunscreens with tint for women and plain mineral sunscreen for men. Yes, men! You need to wear it too!
Beauty by Earth facial sunscreen for everyday wear is available on Amazon. https://a.co/d/3705irU
Its a 20 sunscreen so it better in the winter months unless you are a skier or outdoors a lot. Then you need the same SPF as in the summer. The sun will reflect off of the snow and burn you faster than you think!
Suntegrity 5-in-1 is a nice tinted sunscreen and moisturizer that is a 30 spf but a little on the pricier side. Clean ingredients with a smooth finish. https://a.co/d/e1Bv3UT
The Native collection of sunscreens are very good without the harsh ingredients and available on amazon https://a.co/d/4JJwHAJ
Badger adventure sunscreen offers an SPF50 with organic ingredients and water resistance for your beach and pool fun. https://a.co/d/4x1sZnY
And don’t forget the lips!!! Actinic cheilitis is a big problem once you get older! Also known as “fisherman’s lips”, this condition is precancerous and from all the sun exposure on the lips. Badger has a lip balm that will keep your lips smooth and protected. https://a.co/d/5eep9xU
Of course if you are very fair or burn easily you may want to go for the SPF clothing and hats for protection.
Pro tip: make sure you get the tops of your ears and your hair part if you are not wearing a hat. People tend to forget these areas and end up burning and getting more sensitive. Sunscreen should be reapplied at least every hour or 2 depending on your activities. Trust me you will still get the vitamin D that you need!
Stay safe out there!
